09. Tillie Tuesday Feb. 2, 2021

It’s just another Tillie Tuesday!

Tillie on important business:

Tillie came upstairs with a pillow pressed against her face.

Tillie: This is my gigantic phone.

(We try to respond)

Tillie: Just a minute. I’m on a call.

Tillie, after a disagreement about getting dressed for school:

Tillie (yelling): I’m going to skip breakfast!

Me: okay, that’s fine.

Tillie (in a calmer voice): Did you hear me?

Me: Yes, you said you are going to skip breakfast. Tillie (softly): Aren’t you going to try to stop me or something?

Tillie, on “Whatever”:

After an increase in her usage of the word it was time for a talk. I asked her where she heard the word being used. She replied, “Rainbow Dash says it. She kind of cares about the world and she kind of doesn’t.”

And that is a fairly accurate description of “Whatever.”

Tillie, food critic (after I used a different kind of bread to make breakfast):

Tillie: What is that?

Me: French toast.

Tillie: Looks like French gross to me.

Tillie and the advantage of having an older parent:

Tillie: Can I watch tv?

Me: No, eat your dinner.

Tillie: Can I please watch tv?

I accidentally dropped a fork and when I bent to pick it up I groaned a little bit. Tillie seized the opportunity.

Tillie: I’ll take that as a yes, then.

Tillie, on injury:

I dropped a jar on my foot this week, cutting my toe and requiring stitches. This led to some interesting conversations with Tillie.

Tillie: I’m glad it wasn’t your head because then you couldn’t think. Then we would have to visit you in the hospital and who would get my backpack all set in the morning?

Tillie: What do you think is worse, a broken bone or a big hole in your toe? Ask Granny Jo. She knows. (My Mom broke her leg last year).

Tillie: (after watching worship) Worship said God can fix anything, right? Well, God is taking a long time fixing your toe. (It had been two days).

And, finally,

Tillie, on table prayer

In certain circles families use a very common table prayer. The exact words, however, are highly debated and vary from home to home. Tillie, however, has her very own version:

“Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest and let the food be our guest.” We’ve let it go as we knew one day she would say it correctly. Recently, however, she actually listened to the words she was saying and exclaimed, “What am I saying? That we’re going to eat our guests?” and we all giggled. (She still says it her way).
