It’s just another Tillie Tuesday,

I wish it were a snooze day,

But it’s my news day,

And just another Tillie Tuesday.

Tillie Tuesday, the YMCA Day Camp while Mommy’s gone edition

Tillie, on the use of magic powders

“Wake up powder! Now you are going to fall awake.”

“Funny powder! Now you have to be funny!”

Tillie, after a good doctor’s appointment

Me: Tillie, I’m so proud of you for being so healthy, and active, and intelligent, and funny.

Tillie: I get being funny from you.

Me: You do?

Tillie: When I was in Beijing, China I wasn’t really funny.

Tillie, on hair styles

Me: I feel like I should put your hair in a pony tail for all your running around today.

Tillie: No thank you. I like my hair covering my eyes. I like being me, remember.

Tillie, on camp experience

“Why did God invent port-a-johns?”

Tillie, on confidence in spite of it all

Tillie came out of day camp looking a little bit like Pigpen from the Peanuts comic strip. Since it was a very hot and humid day we treated ourselves to an ice cream cup. Which meant her face was also covered in drops of ice cream. I laughed and told her she better take a bath.

Tillie: Well, I still look fabulous.

Tillie, on nature hikes

Tillie begs to watch TV but instead we go on a hike.

After five seconds: “Daddy, don’t you just wish we could live in nature?”

On the same hike

Tillie, over and over: “Look out for the branch. Look out for the rock. Look out for the branch. Look out for the rock. Look out...

Me, thinking: Do you want to watch some TV?

Tillie, on questions in the dark

Tillie: When will it wear off?

Me: When will what wear off?

Tillie: The hurting process.

Me: What hurts?

Tillie: My eyeball when I touch it.

Me: When did you touch your eyeball?

Tillie: I’m touching it right now. It still hurts.

And, finally,

Tillie when Jeanne comes home

Tillie: Can we have some together time?

Jeanne: Of course. Let me quick go to the bathroom first.

(Tillie follows her into the bathroom.)

Jeanne: I’d like a little privacy please.

(Tillie, waiting outside the door)

Tillie: (sings) Okay! I’ll be out here if you need me!
