11. Tillie Tuesday Feb. 16, 2021

It’s just another Tillie Tuesday!

Tillie, running through the house:

“I have one hundred miles of energy!”

Tillie, singing with one hundred miles of energy a song she is making up on the go. After I couldn’t take it anymore I said, “That was great!” Tillie answered, “I’m just warming up.”

Tillie, brushing her teeth, looks at the mirror and sees one strand of hair across her face (as in the photo below). Tillie:

“Look Dad, I’m a compass! Which way am I going?”

Tillie, wearing her glow in the dark pjs for the first time, wakes up in the middle of the night to see if they are still glowing. She shakes me awake to tell me:

“Eventually, my pjs went out. They literally need light to turn back on.”

Tillie, discovering the word “literally”:

Somehow, she doesn’t use “literally“ in the hyperbolic way most commonly heard even though she undoubtedly learned it by being used this way. Instead, she uses it as above, or mundanely in sentences like: “I literally eat breakfast after I wake up in the morning.”

There was one time she called Jeanne a smarty pants and Jeanne pointed out that she was, in fact, wearing pants and that she was also very smart. On that occasion Tillie replied, “So you literally are a smarty pants.”

Tillie, processing the fact that her mother would be staying in Florida for a few days while Tillie and I flew home.

“It’s good that there’s only one parent traveling with me because sometimes two parents bug me...I’m sorry if that hurts your heart.”

But at the airport as Jeanne dropped us off, “Now I am sorry I said that.”

Then, in the airport, “I wish Mommy was with us.” And, emotions hitting, “Do you know that I am crying now? Does Mommy know?”

And, finally, as we crossed into Wisconsin last night: “Hi, my lovely state. Did you miss me?”
