39. Tillie Tuesday Nov. 9, 2021

It’s just another Tillie Tuesday,

I wish it were a snooze day,

But it’s my news day,

And just another Tillie Tuesday.

Tillie the “If I’m being honest” edition

Tillie, on family traditions

Me: Do you want pancakes for breakfast?

Tillie: Shure? Not the French kind, right?

Me: No, not the French kind.

Tillie: Did the French kind pass down through the Hartfield side?

Me: Yes.

Tillie: Well, they’re not going to pass down through me. You know that, right?

Tillie, just wondering

“Why is it called football when you use your hands?”

Tillie, on the subject of parent-splaining

Me: I remember when I was a boy…

Tillie: And remember, I’m not you.

Tillie, on the importance of keeping it brief

“I don’t like when it’s too long a song except when I’m singing it.”

Tillie, on a father’s attempt to kiss her good morning

“Those aren’t kisses. Those are whisker scratches.”

Tillie, on living her truth

“You are the best father I ever could have. I couldn’t say that to the father who couldn’t take care of me because I was too young.”

Tillie, on how I missed her apology

“I did say I’m sorry many times, very, very quietly.”

Tillie, on knowing your audience

“Okay, Mommy and Daddy, you sit here and I’m going to sing you a song. No crying or you lose, and you’re going to want to cry.”

And, finally,

Tillie, on how to make me choke up a little

“Love will never give up on you.”
