38. Tillie Tuesday Oct. 26, 2021

It’s just another Tillie Tuesday,

I wish it were a snooze day,

But it’s my news day,

And just another Tillie Tuesday.

The Conversations Edition

Tillie, on the power of commercial jingles

Me: Tillie, where were you born?

Tillie: China

Me: Where do you live now?

Tillie: (sings) U-S-A-A

Tillie, on you are what you eat

Me: Tillie, time for breakfast!

Tillie: What is it?

Me: It’s a very special bagel, ham, and cheese sandwich!

Tillie: What makes that special?

Me: Well, you know, the bagel!

Tillie: Did your father used to make these?

Me: Probably.

Tillie: How did he know how to make them? Did he teach you? Or maybe it just runs in your veins.

Me: Probably.

Tillie: I know what the secret ingredient is.

Me: What is it?

Tillie: It’s love.

Me (delighted): Yes! The secret ingredient is love.

(Tillie takes a bite.)

Tillie: I don’t taste the love.

Me: It’s in there.

Tillie: Prove it.

Tillie, obviously from another generation or planet

“What do you like better, Star Wars or Voltron? Well, Voltron does have less killing and no kidnapping, you know. Plus, the princess was hit by a laser and survived. There is one similarity between the two that I know of: they both have flying ships that fight each other.”

Tillie, on how to greet your father Part One

“Hey, Daddy! Skullcrusher, I mean.”

Tillie, on how to greet your father Part Two (after he’s been away on a trip)

“Daddy! Let me just pinch (she pinches her arm)…No, I’m not dreaming. Daddy!” (runs in for the hug)

Tillie, as Daddy tries to tell Mommy about his trip

“What are you yammering about?”

Tillie, on why we love that the Spanish teacher is back

Me: Do you want a scoop of ice cream for dessert?

Tillie: (forms her hand into a “C”) “Si!”

Then she counts to twenty in Spanish and smiles.

Tillie, on assessing one’s accomplishments

“I have great news, Daddy. I won a round of Gagaball! Well, not against the professionals or anything.”

Tillie, on the importance of hygienic accountability

Tillie: Are we going to a concert?

Me: Yes.

Tillie: Did you shower?

Me: Yes.

Tillie: Did you clean your armpits?

And, finally,

Tillie, on taking over the story

Me: (Beginning the night’s adventure story) We set sail on a mighty sailing ship in search of great adventure…

Tillie: Don’t ships sometimes go down in the seven seas when there are bad storms?

Me: Sometimes.

Tillie: Is that what’s going to happen?

Me: We’ll have to find out.

Tillie: Go the story.
